Big Black - Songs About F*cking Songs About F*cking
Punk Used - LP T&G#24 Touch & Go
1987 Release From The Legendary Steve Albini's Band. Includes Insert. “If Even The Title Of The Album Is Enough To Upset You, Don't Bother Going Near Songs About Fucking. It's Not An Album That Plays On A Title Like That Only For There To Be Some Smooth Soul Within. As Brutal As That Cover Is, The Music Is Even More So But This Is The Key Album From A Band That Were Of Equal Importance To Sonic Youth, Butthole Surfers And Husker Du, As All Being US-Based Alternative Rock Bands Of The Eighties. If You're Into The Others Or You Came Later To Ministry, Nine Inch Nails Or, Somewhat Sadly, Marilyn Manson And Slipknot, You Might Want To Check Out Where A Lot Of It Began - Big Black's Songs About Fucking.” – The Music Fix... more details

Big Black - Lungs Lungs
Punk New - LP TG89 Touch & Go
Sealed Early 90's Issue. Originally Released On Ruthless In 1983. "Sensibly The Most Developmental And Skeletal Of Big Black's Releases, Steve Albini's First Official Contribution To The Rock World Is A Batch Of Sparse, Minimal New Wave Recorded Cheaply In Two Different Apartment Locations. With The Exception Of Some Sax Provided By John Bohnen, Everything Is Done By The Young Albini, Then A Student At Northwestern. Not-So-Pleasant Views Of Morality ("I Can Be Killed"), Post-Mortem Fornication With An Army Vet ("Dead Billy"), And Primal Living ("Steelworker") Provide Some Of The Subject Matter, Matching The Bleakly Realist Lyricism Of Swans With A Slight Bastardization Of The Precise, Jagged Minimalism Of Wire, Devo, And Suicide. Limited To A Trebly Buzz And Augmented By A Casiotone, The Guitar Has Little Of The Electrifying Clamor And Rattle Of Later Releases. - AMG... more details

Big Black - Atomizer Atomizer
Punk Used - LP HMS043 Homestead
Rare 1986 Original With Custom Insert. Vinyl Appears Glossy, Unplayed. “After Countless Rock And Neo-Industrial Outfits Attempted To One-Up Each Other's Levels Of Extremity Over The Years, Atomizer Holds Up Extremely Well. It's Not Every Day That One Hears A Song Considering Self-Immolation As "Just Something To Do" Or Another That Tackles The Case Of An Alleged Parent-Child Molestation Ring From The Viewpoint Of The Offender. Instrumentally, Atomizer Is A Wailing Behemoth Of Assaultive Roland Beats, Steve Albini And Santiago Durango's Clanging And Whirring Guitars, And New Member Dave Riley's Lumberjack Bass. Their Musical Invention Went A Couple Steps Further, Most Obviously On The Warped-Beyond-Recognition Guitars Of "Passing Complexion" And "Kerosene." The Latter Is Undeniably Big Black's Brightest/Bleakest Moment, An Epically Roaming Track That Features An Instantly Memorable Guitar Intro, Completely Incapable Of Being Accurately Described By Vocal Imitation Or Physical Gesture. It's Also Albini At His Most Plainspoken And Bleak: "Stare At The Wall/Stare At Each Other And Wait 'Til We Die." It's Big Black's "Light My Fire," Literally. "Bad Houses" Tops Killing Joke In Affecting Moodiness, Serving As A Perhaps Unintentional Reply To John Mellencamp's "Pink Houses." Both Albini And Mellencamp Were Commenting On The Midwest, So Why Not? Other Points Of Interest Include The Demented, Storming Menace Of "Fists Of Love" And A Live Version Of "Cables" That Features An Extended Guitar Wobbly From Albini. The Record Remains As Horrifying As The Day It Was Recorded.” - Andy Kellman, AMG... more details

Big Black - Big Black And The Blues Big Black And The Blues
Jazz New - LP 73134 MCA
Sealed, Hard To Find Original. Shrink Is Partially Torn. Corners Show Rubbing With The Beginning Of A Split On The Bottom At The Mouth. “Danny Ray Has Gotten Far More Ink For His Colorful Name Than For His Importance As A Fine Percussionist And One Of The '60s Better Practitioners Of Afro-Cuban Rhythms Within The Jazz Context. Ray Got His Nickname From An Older Brother When He Showed Interest In Drumming As A Child. He Heard The Conga Being Used In Cuban Music On A Radio Program While In High School, And He Subsequently Traveled To Florida And The Bahamas. Ray Spent Five Years Alternating Between These Areas. During That Time He Played With Lord Flea's Calypso Band In The Bahamas And With The Calypso Eddy Trio. He Also Worked In Miami With Jack Contanzo, Moe Coffman And The Contemporary Jazz Orchestra. Ray Later Formed A Band With Jamaican Trumpeter Billy Cook In Nassau And Began Exploring A Mix Of Caribbean And Jazz Rhythms. During The '60s He Worked Often With Randy Weston, As Well As Ray Bryant, Johnny Barracuda, Junior Cook And Eric Dolphy. He Was Featured At The Caribbean Pavilion At The 1965 World's Fair In New York City And Played With Dizzy Gillespie Both At The Fair And That Year's Newport Jazz Festival.” – Ron Wynn, AMG... more details
