Gary Spann, Bass, Guitar, Backing Vocals And Glass; Damon Edge, Lead Vocals, Machine Guitars, Organ, Buklahs, Modes, Barbecue And Industrial Percussion, Electrified Rhythm Guitars, Drums And Tape Effects; Helios Creed, Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitars, Bass, Lead Guitars, Bells And Bowed Guitar; John L. Cyborg, Data Memory. Appears Unplayed! “Starting With The Fragmented Assault Of "TV As Eyes," Which Rapidly Descends Into Heavily Treated Conversational Snippets From TV And Deep, Droning Keyboards, Half Machine Sounds Like A Weird Broadcast From Thousand Of Miles Away Where Rock Is Treated As An Exotic Musical Form. Creed Fully Gets To Shine Here, His Pitched-Up/Pitched-Down Guitars As Good An Example Of Psychedelic Assault As Anything. Sprawled All Over The Beeps And Murmurs Of The Songs, Not To Mention Edge's Still Self-Created Drumming And Iggyish Vocal Interjections, It Makes Everything Sound Utterly Disturbed. If Not As Obsessed With Tempo Shifts And Full Oddity As, Say, Faust, Half Machine Is Still Pretty Close To That Band's Level Of Krautrock Playfulness And Explosion.” Ned Raggett, All Music.... more details

Chrome - Read Only Memory Read Only Memory
Psych Used - LP RS 12-002 Red
1979 Five-Track 45rpm Original With Insert. Jacket Has A Tocuh Of Edge Wear, Vinyl Appears Unplayed. Our Review - One Scary Ass Band. "Introducing Their Disembodied Drummer John Q. Cyborg — In Reality A Drum Machine, Publicity Photos Of The Time To The Contrary — Chrome Moved Into The Next Phase Of Its Existence With Read Only Memory. The Five Track Release Reconfirmed Them As Being Some Of The Craziest Musicians Out There Working With In A Rock Format At The Time. Beginning With A Rising Swell Of Processed Creed Guitar Shooting Towards The Skies As Edge Provides Rumbling Keyboard Loops, Before Switching Over To The Varied Cut-Up Format The Early Edge/Creed Partnership Favored, Read Only Memory Is, Unsurprisingly, Strange And Eerily Compelling. One Curious Thing About The Release Is That, Rather That Specifically Highlighting Separate Songs, The Same Cyborg Beat Continues Relentlessly Throughout, Fading And Reappearing From Time To Time. Edge And Creed Make A Variety Of Different Noises Over The Top As They Choose, From Soft Guitar Chimes To Punchy Randomness, All To Good Effect. The Most Distinct Number Is "I Am The Jaw," If Only Because Creed's Brief Lyrical Part At The Start Identifies It As Such, While The Two Musicians Add More Guitar And Keyboard Moodiness All Around.” – Ned Raggett, All Music Guide... more details
