Edmunds, Dave - Rockpile Rockpile
Pop Used - LP MAM 3 MAM
Beautiful 1972 Stereo Original. “Dave Edmunds' Debut Album Rockpile Established His Sound — Not Only His Revivalist Tendencies, But Also His Method Of Meticulously Recreating The Sound And Style Of Classic Early Rock & Roll, R&B, And Country Records. Edmunds Plays Nearly Every Instrument On The Album, With Bassist John Williams Being The Only Full-Time Collaborator. As A Result, The Record Doesn't Sound "Live," It Has A Pinched, Precise Quality That May Contradict The Spontaneity That Was At The Core Of The Original Singles, But It Does Offer An Otherworldly Quality That Makes The Record Distinctive. Take The Hit "I Hear You Knocking," Which Has A Mechanical Rhythm And A Weird, Out-Of-Phase Vocal That Qualifies As An Original Interpretation, Unlike His By-The-Book Take On Chuck Berry's "The Promised Land," Which Suffers From The Stiff Rhythms. Still, The Best Moments On Rockpile Come From Songs Like "Down, Down, Down," An Obscure Gem That Manages To Recreate Not Only The Sound, But The Feeling Of Classic Rock & Roll, Perhaps Because Edmunds Wasn't Concerned With Recreating One Of His Beloved Singles.” - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide... more details

Edmunds, Dave - Repeat When Necessary Repeat When Necessary
Pop New - LP SS 8507 Swan Song
Seaked 1979 Original. Clean COH. “Recorded Simultaneously With Nick Lowe's Labour Of Lust, Dave Edmunds' Repeat When Necessary Continues The Winning Streak Of Get It And Tracks On Wax 4 Simply By Sticking To The Formula. Though Rockpile's Sound Is A Little Cleaner Here Than Before, Nothing's Changed But The Songs, Which Are Uniformly Excellent. Culled Primarily From Pub Rock Contemporaries (And Containing No Lowe Songs Whatsoever), The Record Contains Four Classics: Elvis Costello's Galloping "Girls Talk," And Graham Parker's Relentless "Crawling From The Wreckage," The Funny (A Rarity Of Edmunds) "Creature From The Black Lagoon," And The Country-Rocker "Queen Of Hearts," Which Would Later Become A Hit For Juice Newton In Exactly The Same Arrangement. A Few Songs Come Close To Meeting This High Standard, But They Are Occasionally Hampered By A Tightness Similar To The Pinched Rhythms Of Subtle As A Flying Mallet; In Particular, The Early Huey Lewis Song "Bad Is Bad" And The Old Brinsley Schwarz Number "Home In My Hand" Are Hurt By This. But These Are Minor Flaws — Repeat When Necessary Is An Energetic, Old-Fashioned Rock & Roll Record That Ranks As Edmunds' Last Great Album.” - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide... more details

Edmunds, Dave - Plugged In Plugged In
Pop Used - LP 477333 Columbia
Very Limited 1994 Original. Glossy, Unplayed Condition. “Returning To The One-Man Band Approach Of His Early Records, Dave Edmunds Crafted A Fine Comeback With Plugged In. Though His Method Is Similar In Execution To Subtle As A Flying Mallet, The Impact Is Different, Primarily Because He Has Stripped Away Much Of His Spector-Ian Pop Influences And Sticks To A Menu Of Ready-Made Roots-Rockers. Alternating Between Covers And Originals, The Song Selection Is Solid, Even If Only A Handful Of Songs Stand Out. Among The Highlights Is An Exciting Version Of Jerry Reed's Instrumental "The Claw," A Sweet Cover Of Al Anderson's "Better Word For Love," And The Sunny Pop Of "Beach Boy Blood (In My Veins)." While The Studied, Solitary Performance On Plugged In Can Be A Little Stiff, It's Songs Like These That Make The Album His Best Record In Years. Still, "Sabre Dance '94" Was Entirely Unnecessary.” Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide.... more details
