Griffith, Nanci - There's A Light Beyond These Woods There's A Light Beyond These Woods
Country Used - LP PH 1097 Philo
1986 2nd Issue With Lyric Insert. Appears Unplayed. Recorded Live To 2 Track With No Overdubs In 1977. Pressed On Quiex Virgin Vinyl. Glossy, Unplayed Condition. Returning To Nanci Griffith's First Album, Cut In 1978-1979, Provides An Interesting Backdrop To View Her Work In The Latter Part Of The '90s. Clearly, The Singer/Songwriter Fans Love Hasn't Arrived Yet, But One Catches Glimpses Of Future Greatness On Songs Like "I Remember Joe" And "Song For Remembered Heroes." Call Griffith A Songwriter-In-Training On There's A Light Beyond These Woods, Learning How To Shape A Melody, Pitch Her Voice, And Surround Herself With The Right Musicians. Most Of The Accompaniment Is Simple, As In The Guitar And Cello That Underline Her Voice In "West Texas Sun." Lyrically, Songs Like "Montana Backroads" Rely On Uncomplicated Imagery -- Pickup Trucks, Feed Stores, And Bars -- To Paint A Lonely Portrait Of A Washed-Up Rodeo Rider. This Integrated, Low-Key Approach Contrasts Sharply With Griffith's Later Albums, Like 2001's Clock Without Hands. While She Exudes Much More Confidence On The Latter Effort, She Forgets Many Of The Basics Of Songcraft, Overreaching Lyrically And Adding An Overly Bright Production. In Retrospect, There's A Light Beyond These Woods Sounds Better Because It Sticks Closer Its Folk Roots. Fans Only Familiar With Griffith's Later Work Will Enjoy Watching A Young Poet Find Her Muse. All Music Guide.... more details

Griffith, Nanci - Blue Roses From The Moons Blue Roses From The Moons
Pop Used - LP 62015 Elektra
Long Out Of Print 1997 Vinyl Rarity With Custom Insert. Appears Unplayed. “Blue Roses From The Moons Expands The Smoother Sounds Of Flyer By Bringing Nanci Griffith Firmly Into The Adult Alternative Playing Field -- Not Only Does Don Gehman, The Producer Behind Hootie & The Blowfish, Produce The Record, But Darius Rucker Has A Vocal Cameo, As Well. Though The Slick Sound Is A Little Disarming For Longtime Fans, Griffith's Songwriting Remains Skilled And Assured, And While There Aren't As Many As Standout Numbers As Before, Her Graceful Melodicism And Lyricism And The Professional Production Makes Blue Roses From The Moons A Very Pleasant Listen.” Thom Owens, All Music Guide.... more details

1984 Original. CC. Nanci Griffith Establishes Her Musical Identity And Demonstrates That She Is A Major Talent On This, Her Third Studio Album. On What Might Almost Be Called A Concept Album, The Main Theme Explored Being Travel, Nanci Sings About The Joys And Excitement Of The Road As Well As The Longing That Comes With Extended Periods Away From Home. She Seamlessly Blends Country, Folk And Bluegrass With A Stellar Group Of Musicians That Includes A Young And Highly Talented Banjo Player By The Name Of Bela Fleck. Recommended.... more details

Griffith, Nanci - Last Of The True Believers Last Of The True Believers
Country Used - LP PH 1109 Philo
1986 Original Label Pressed On Pure Virgin Vinyl With Custom Inner Sleeve. Features Bela Fleck, Mark O'Connor, Lyle Lovett And Others. Her Fourth And Final Release On Rounder's Folk Subsidiary Label. 4 1/2 Stars In All Music Guide. Glossy, Unplayed Condition. “At The Time Griffith Relocated To Nashville, TN, Her Decidedly Texan Sense Of Musicality Had Already Begun Developing Subtle Hues Of Appalachia As Well As The Cosmopolitan Country That Would Inform Her Mid- To Late-'80s Stint On MCA. However, It Is The Overwhelming Strength And Conviction In The Singer/Songwriter's Original Material On The Last Of The True Believers That Remain Indelibly Impressed Upon Enthusiasts And Critics Alike. As Such, Griffith Has Retained A Copious Sampling From The Disc In Her Subsequent Live Performance Repertoire. Griffith's Crystalline Vocals Are Well Matched To The Warm, Earthy Acoustic Instrumentation On The Intimate "More Than A Whisper" And "The Wing And The Wheel." At Times, The Delicate Interplay Creates A Mutual Envelopment Of The Human Vocal Instrument With That Of The Stringed Nature -- Most Notably On The Heartfelt "Love At The Five And Dime." By Way Of Contrast, Griffith Defies Her Somewhat Introverted Image On The Tongue-In-Cheek (No Pun!) Love Song "Looking For The Time (Workin' Girl)" And The Effervescent Waltz "Love's Found A Shoulder." Lying Nestled Between Are Spry Melodies Such As "Banks Of The Pontchartrain," Featuring Some Nice Picking From Béla Fleck (Banjo), And "Goin' Gone," Which Perfectly Captures Some Of Lloyd Green's Finest Pedal Steel Work On The Disc.” Lindsay Planer, AMG.... more details
