Hawkwind - Hall Of The Mountain Grill Hall Of The Mountain Grill
Prog New - LP UA-LA328-G United Artists
Sealed 1974 Original. Cut Corner. Rare. “The Band's Best Studio Album, Coming Off Of The Success Of Space Ritual. The Group's Rock Roots Are Juxtaposed Effectively With The Swelling Synthesizer Flourishes And Pretentious Song Ideas, Creating The Quintessential Guitar-Oriented Space Rock Record. The Highlight Was The Live Recording Of "You'd Better Believe It," With Its Crunchy Guitars, But Nobody Minded Keyboardman Simon House's Languid Synthesizer-Laden "Hall Of The Mountain Grill" (Especially As It Was Followed By The Lemmy-Sung "Lost Johnny," A Great All-Out Rocker). The Sound, Especially The Mix Of Ballsy High-Volume Guitar Playing And Soaring Electronic Keyboards ("The Psychedelic Warlords," "D-Rider"), Would Later Get Co-Opted By Outfits Such As Blue Öyster Cult "Don't Fear The Reaper" And Kansas. Overall, This Is The Sound And Imagery That The Punkier Kids And Druggies Who Went To Shows Like Laserium Were Looking For, And If The Producers Of Laserium Had Devised Something Hooked Around This Record, It Could Have Run 20 Years Or Better.” Bruce Eder, AMG.... more details

Hawkwind - Warrior On The Edge Of Time Warrior On The Edge Of Time
Pop Used - LP SD 36-115 Atco
Stunning 1976 White Label Promo. With DJ Promo Song Hype Sticker On Front Cover And Custom Inner Sleeve. Appears Glossy, Unplayed. “Warrior On The Edge Of Time Delivers Some Of Hawkwind's Best-Loved Future Showstoppers -- Simon House's Far-Reaching "Spiral Galaxy 28948," The Frenetic "Assault And Battery," And The Monstrous "Magnu" All Made Their Bow Here, While The Accompanying "Kings Of Speed" Single Was Certainly A Big Hit In The Youth Clubs Of The Day, Even If It Did Steadfastly Avoid The Chart. Remarkable, Too, Is "The Golden Void," A Stately Bolero Set, Indeed, On The Edge Of Time And Buffeted By One Of The Band's Most Impressive Ever Instrumental Performances. A Handful Of Tracks Do Betray Their Age. Michael Moorcock's Echo- And Effects-Laden Recitation Of "The Wizard Blew His Horn" Is Impossibly Overwrought, Although It's Worth Sitting Through Simply For The Segue Into The Throbbing "Opa-Loka"; In Fact, The Entire Album Is Presented With Minimal Breaks Between Tracks, To Deliver A Seamless Treat That -- In The Light Of Hawkwind's Next Musical Moves -- Has Since Seen Warrior On The Edge Of Time Described As The Band's Last True "Classic." It Isn't, But You Can Easily See Why People Think It Might Be. “ Dave Thompson, All Music Guide.... more details

Hawkwind - P.X.R.5 P.X.R.5
Prog Used - LP CDS 4016 Charisma
Stunning 1979 UK Original. "The Opening "Death Trap," The Ruminations Of A Doomed Race Car Driver, Kicks The Album Off With An Explosion Of Energy And Excitement That Is Positively Punk-Ish In Its Intensity. More Than Any Of Their Own Contemporaries, Hawkwind Both Understood And Allowed Themselves To Absorb The Energies Of New Wave, And Only A Faint Unease About The Band's Supposed Hippie Leanings Prevented Them From Linking With The Stooges, The New York Dolls, And The Velvet Underground In The Pantheon Of Punky Godfathers. The Atmospherically Drifting "High Rise," Too, Packs A Certain Fashionability, Dwelling Upon The Rigors Of Life Atop The Towering Concrete Rabbit Hutches That Were Springing Up Over The Nation's Cities, And Haunting Listeners With One Of The Most Anthemic Choruses In The Entire Hawkwind Canon. But Traditional Hawkwind Themes Are Not Overlooked. "Uncle Sam's On Mars," While Not A Patch On The Live Versions Of The Day, Is A Throbbing And Deeply Spacy Return To Space Ritual Pastures, And The Roughshod "Infinity" Could Have Slipped Out Of In Seach Of Space. Compared With The Albums That Preceded It, P.X.R.5 Is Not An All-Out Classic -- Indeed, At The Time Of Release, It Drew More Attention For A Sleeve Design That Depicted The Wrong Way Of Wiring An Electrical Plug Than For The Music. But No Best-Of Of The Band's Late-'70s Output Would Be Complete Without At Least Half Of P.X.R.5 Falling Into Contention, And "Death Trap" Is Worth Even More Than That." Prog Used - LP SD 36-115 Arco
Beautiful 1976 White Label Promo. With DJ Promo Song Hype Sticker On Front Cover And Custom Inner Sleeve. Small saw Cut. Tiny Hint Of Ring Wear. Hawkwind - Choose Your Masques Choose Your Masques
Pop Used - LP RCALP 6055 RCA
1982 Black And Silver Label Original With A-1U / B-1U Stampers. Spindle Mark On The Label But The Record Plays Quietly. “One Of Hawkwind's Stronger 1980s Releases, Their Last U.K. Top 30 Hit, And Certainly The High Point Of Their Two-Year/Three-Album Stint With RCA, Choose Your Masques Boasts A Vision And Energy That Neither Of Its Predecessors Could Match, Coupled With Some Excellent Songwriting And -- Again, Unlike Its Predecessors -- More Than A Couple Of Songs That Demanded Revisiting. Part Of The Improvement Was Surely Down To The Return Of Saxophonist Nik Turner, Absent Since 1978. Both His Pen And His Instrument Are Eminently Visible Across An Album That Matches A Newfound Sense Of High Drama With Hawkwind's Traditional Emotional Punch” – Dave Thompson, AMG... more details
