Jean-Luc Ponty - More Than Meets The Ear More Than Meets The Ear
Jazz New - LP ST 20134 World Pacific
First Copy We Have Ever Had In Stock Of This Sealed 1968 Gatefold Stereo Original. “Jean-Luc Ponty Made A Strong Impression With His Appearance At The 1967 Monterey Jazz Festival. Just Barely 26 At The Time Of This Obscure But Worthy Album (His First To Appear On An American Label), Ponty Is Teamed With Pianist George Gruntz, Trumpeter Carmell Jones, Altoist Leo Wright, Drummer Daniel Humair And An Unidentified Bassist. In Addition To Five Originals By Either Ponty Or Gruntz, They Perform A Pair Of Pop Songs (Including Miriam Makeba's "Pata Pata") And The Beatles' "With A Little Help From My Friends." Already A Very Original Player, Ponty's Style At This Early Point Was Far Beyond Hard Bop And Looked A Little Toward Both Pop And John Coltrane. Unfortunately, This Fine Effort Will Be Difficult To Find And Has Yet To Be Reissued On CD.” Scott Yanow, All Music Guide.... more details

Jean-Luc Ponty - Live Live
Jazz New - LP P-10660A Atlantic
New, Unplayed 1979 Japanese First Pressing With Obi. “Serving Up Prime Cuts From His Last 4 Albums, Jean-Luc Ponty's Live Album Is A Great Retrospective Of His Classic Era Filled With Advanced Fusion Instrumentals. Standout Non-Album Track No Strings Attached Is A Violin Showcase With Plenty Of Effects And Classic Ponty-Isms To Bring The Crowd To Roaring Applause. Ponty's Playing Is Remarkable And Melodic Throughout, And His Backing Band Are Nuanced And Responsive. Like Any Ponty LP Great Playing Abounds, But The True Star Of This Release Are The Compositions Themselves, Which Sound Even More Organic And Natural Live Then They Did On Previous Studio Releases. A Must-Have For Any Fan Of His Early Electric Solo Work, Also Highly Recommended For The Newly-Initiated Ponty Fan Or Any Fan Of 70's Fusion.” Logan Ressler, AMG.... more details
