Getz, Stan - Focus
1961 Stereo Original (MGM Records Around Label) Housed In A Laminated, Heavy-Duty Gatefold Cover. Appears Unplayed. Small Piece Of Scotch Tape On Rear Top Left Corner Of Gatefold (Not Visible From The Front), Hence Price. Stan Asked Eddie Sauter To Write an Extended Work For Him And His Only Instruction Was To "Do What You Fell Is Right." When Sauter Had Finished The Seven Compositions That Make Up This Album There Was No Discussion Of What Had Been Written, No Rewriting, No Second Thoughts. Stan Was Handed a Sketchy Lead Sheet Of The Score For Orchestra And Ten Violins, Four Violas, Two Cellos, Bass, Harp And Percussion. Not One Note Had Been Scored For Getz, So That His Part Would Have To Be Wholly Improvised Over And Through The Compositions. After Hearing The Final, Edited Tapes, Stan Declared That It Was His Finest Work And The One That He Was Most Proud Of....more

Strawbs - Hero And Heroine
Sealed 1973 Original. First Sealed Copy We Have Had In Stock In Eleven Years. “The Group's Ballsiest Album To Date, A Surging, Hard-Rocking Follow-Up To Bursting At The Seams, Which Debuted A New Lineup, Richard Hudson, John Ford, And Blue Weaver Having Left To Form Their Own Group. In Their Places, Ex-Nashville Teens Keyboardman John Hawken And The More Muscular Rhythm Section Of Rod Coombes And Chas Cronk Make Their Debut, On What Is The Strawbs' First Fully Electric Album. Dave Cousins' Songwriting (Augmented By Dave Lambert, Who Also Contributes Some Slashing Electric Lead Guitar) Is Still As Romantic As Ever In Various Spots ("Shine On Silver Sun," "Deep Summer's Sleep"), But Also Boasts Dark Visions ("Round And Round") Which, Coupled With New Band's Muscular Playing, Made The Strawbs One Of The Hardest-Rocking Progressive Bands In The World. They Should Have Been Able To Blow Acts Like The Moody Blues Off The Stage, So What Went Wrong With This Album And The Tour? One Suspects It Was A Little Too Serious And Complex For Kids Who Were Just Looking For A Soundtrack To Their Drug Experiences, And It Rocked Too Hard For The "Sensitive" English-Major Types Who Got Off On Cousins' Lyrics -- In A Sense, The Strawbs Were Squeezed Out Of The Middle In A Very Small-Scale, Subtle 1970s Version Of The Old Folk-Versus-Rock Battles Of The '60s. Hero And Heroine Deserved Better, Being One Of The Best Guitar-Driven Progressive Rock Albums Of Its Period.” Bruce Eder, All Music Guide....more

Young, Neil - Time Fades Away
Beautiful 1973 2nd Steamboat Label (No "Stereo" On Bottom Of Label). Comes With The Giant Fold-Open Lyric Sheet Housed In A Textured Cover. “Anyone Who Has Followed Neil Young's Career Knows Enough Not To Expect A Simple Evening Of Mellow Good Times When They See Him In Concert, But In 1973, When Young Hit The Road After Harvest Had Confirmed His Status As A First-Echelon Rock Star, That Knowledge Wasn't Nearly As Common As It Is Today. Young's Natural Inclinations To Travel Against The Current Of Audience Expectations Were Amplified By A Stormy Relationship Between Himself And His Touring Band, As Well As The Devastating Death Of Guitarist Danny Whitten, Who Died Of A Drug Overdose Shortly After Being Given His Pink Slip During The First Phase Of Tour Rehearsals. The Shows That Followed Turned Into A Nightly Exorcism Of Young's Rage And Guilt, As Well As A Battle Between Himself And An Audience Who, Expecting To Hear "Old Man" And "Heart Of Gold," Didn't Know What To Make Of The Electric Assault They Witnessed. All The More Remarkably, Young Brought Along A Mobile Recording Truck To Capture The Tour On Tape For A Live Album And The Result, Time Fades Away, Was A Ragged Musical Parade Of Bad Karma And Road Craziness. If The Performances Are Often Loose And Ragged, They're Also Brimming With Emotional Force, And Despite The Dashed Hopes Of "Yonder Stands The Sinner" And "Last Dance," "Don't Be Denied" Is A Moving Remembrance Of Young's Childhood And What Music Has Meant To Him, And It's One Of The Most Powerful Performances Young Ever Committed To Vinyl. Few Rockers Have Been As Willing As Young To Lay Themselves Bare Before Their Audience, And Time Fades Away Ranks With The Bravest And Most Painfully Honest Albums Of His Career — Like The Tequila Young Was Drinking On That Tour, It Isn't For Everyone, But You May Be Surprised By Its Powerful Effects.” Mark Deming, AMG....more
