Soul Colored Vinyl SR 11609 Capitol
Sealed 1977 Sun Colored Vinyl Original. Clean COH. “In The 1980s, R&B Was All About Downsizing -- Instead Of Hiring A Lot Of Musicians For A Session, One Producer Could Do Everything Himself/Herself With Synthesizers And Drum Machines. But When Sun Recorded Its Second Album, Sun Power, In 1977, "The More, The Merrier" Was The Attitude Of Many R&B Acts. So It Wasn't Surprising That The Dayton Funk Band Sun Added Three New Members For This LP: Gary King, Ernie Knisley, And Bruce Hastell. With That New Ten-Man Lineup, Sun Got Away From The Spiritual, Earth, Wind & Fire-Ish Vibe That Characterized Much Of Its First Album, Live On, Dream On, And Emphasized Escapist Party Music. The Tune That Sun Was Best Known For, "Wanna Make Love," Was Carnal In Nature, And That Fact Obviously Wasn't Lost On The Midwestern Funksters When They Wrote "Organ Grinder," "Boogie Bopper," And "Light Me Up" (All Of Which Deal With Matters Of The Flesh) For This LP. Sun Was Hoping For Another Hit, But Unfortunately, Sun Power Didn't Contain Any Major Singles. None Of The Funk Jams Were Big Hits, Nor Was The Jazzy Quiet Storm Ballad "Time Is Passing." Sun Power (Which Capitol Released On Yellow Vinyl) Falls Short Of Remarkable, But It's A Solid, Enjoyable Effort That Should Have Done Better.” – Alex Henderson, All Music Guide... more details

Sun - Live On, Dream On Live On, Dream On
Funk Used - LP ST 11461 Capitol
Beautiful 1976 Orange Label Original With Custom Inner Sleeve And Still In Shrink Wrap. Appears Unplayed. “From Cleveland To Dayton To Cincinnati, Ohio Had An Abundance Of Horn Powered Funk Bands In The 1970s. If Philadelphia And Detroit Were Best Known For Sophisticated Northern Soul, Ohio's Major Cities Were Famous For Hardcore Funksters Like The Ohio Players, Bootsy's Rubber Band, The Dazz Band (Originally Kinsman Dazz), Slave, And Lakeside. Dayton Was The Home Of Sun, A Funk Combo That Showed A Lot Of Promise In The Beginning But Didn't Get Nearly As Far As It Should Have Commercially. The Band's Recording Career Got Off To A Promising Start With 1976's “Live On, Dream On,” Which Boasted The Sweaty Funk Gem "Wanna Make Love." Unfortunately, Many Of The People Who Bought The Single Passed On This Excellent LP, And That Was A Mistake Because A Lot Of The Other Material Is Almost As Strong. While "Wanna Make Love" Is Lusty And Carnal, A More Spiritual, Earth, Wind & Fire-Ish Outlook Defines Funk Items Like "They're Calling For More," "Tell The People," And The Title Song. Meanwhile, Sun's Romantic Side Successfully Asserts Itself On The Haunting Ballad "My Woman." Live On, Dream On (Which Capitol Re-Released As Wanna Make Love Several Months Later) Falls Short Of Perfect, But For The Most Part, It Is Among Sun's Stronger, More Memorable Albums.” Alex Henderson, All Music Guide.... more details
