Adams Effect
New - LP - UP 27.31
Sealed 1988 Original Featuring The Fantastic Lineup Of Frank Foster, Tommy Flanagan, Ron Carter & Billy Hart. Pressed On Pure Virgin Vinyl. “Baritonist Pepper Adams' Final Album As A Leader (He Died 14 Months Later) Matches Him With Tenor Saxophonist Frank Foster, Pianist Tommy Flanagan, Bassist Ron Carter And Drummer Billy Hart For Five Of His Straight-Ahead If Occasionally Complex Originals Plus Foster's "How I Spent The Night." Adams Still Sounded In Prime Form At The Time And, Even If None Of His Tunes Became Standards, They Served As Strong And Diverse Vehicles For The Musicians' Improvisations. A Fine Effort By A Classic Baritone Saxophonist.” Scott Yanow, AMG. Left Bottom Corner Bump, Hence Price.

New - LP - IC 3014
Sealed 1975 Original Recorded Live At The Domicile, Munich. No Promo Or Deletion Markings, Tiny Light Corner Bump To Bottom Left. "Recorded Five Days Before Julian "Cannonball" Adderley's Death, The Title Cut Of This Album Was Retitled And Dedicated To The Late Altoist. The Powerful Baritonist Pepper Adams Is Well Showcased With A Quartet Comprised Of Pianist Walter Norris, Bassist George Mraz And Drummer Makaya Ntshoko On Three Of His Originals, One By Norris And Two ("Three And One" And "'tis") By Thad Jones. Adams Is In Typically Excellent Form, Playing Intense Solos That Push But Stay Within The Boundaries Of Hard Bop." AMG Review By Scott Yanow.

Pepper Adams Plays The Compositions Of Charles Mingus
Audiophile - LP - JW 018
Sealed, Out Of Print 2010 Limited Edition 180gm HQ Stereo Reissue Of Jazz Workshop WSJS 219. Limited To 500 Copies Worldwide. “Pepper Adams' Plays Charlie Mingus Is A Watershed Album In Adams' Long Career. For Starters, Mingus Himself Had A Hand In The Selection Of Material For The Dates, Along With Adams And Vibist Teddy Charles. Next, The Two Dates Here, September 9 And 12, 1963, Were Recorded With Two Different Bands. Most Of The Material Was Taped On The Earlier Date With An Octet Comprised Of Adams, Mingus' Own Drummer, Danny Richmond, Bassist Paul Chambers, And Thad Jones On Trumpet And His Brother Hank On Piano. The Latter Date Added Charles Mcpherson On Alto, Zoot Sims On Tenor, Bennie Powell On Trombone, And Had Bob Cranshaw Replacing Chambers On Bass. Adams' Read Of "Fables Of Faubus," By The Quintet With Its Loping, Rather Than Careening, Pace, Was Arranged By Thad Jones Approved By The Composer. Historically, It Is Also The First Recording Of The Work Without Vocals. "Incarnation," Also By The Quintet, Was Arranged By Adams. Hank Jones Leads The Band In The Piece's Difficult Rhythmic And Harmonic Structures, And He Edges Adams And Thad Jones On In The Front Line; Pepper's Solo And Fills Are Among The Most Moving And Knotty Of His Career. Of The Octet Session, "Haitian Fight Song" Is As Furious As The Composer's, As Cranshaw's Bass Drives The Band Inexhaustibly Into The Spirit Of Righteous Indignation And Rage At Its Heart. On "Better Git It In Your Soul," Sims And Powell's Solos Are Full Of Gut-Bucket Funk And Stride The R&B Line With Aplomb And Plenty Of Grease. This Is One Of Those Must-Own Recordings For Fans Of Adams; But It Is Also For Those Who Revere Mingus' Work, Because, As Radical As Some Of These Interpretations Are, They Were Not Only Sanctioned By, But Delighted In By The Composer.” Thom Jurek, AMG.

The Master
Used - LP - MR 5213
Rare 1980 White Label Promo Still In Shrink Wrap. LP Appears Unplayed. Pepper Adams Had A Demonstrably Heavier Tone On The Baritone Sax Compared To The Better-Known Gerry Mulligan And Had Much Fewer Opportunities To Record As A Leader, Though He Obviously Ranks Among The Most Important Players On The Instrument. This 1980 Studio Date With Tommy Flanagan, George Mraz, And Leroy Williams Is A Stimulating Outing, Dominated By The Leader's Originals. "Bossaallegro" Is A Breezy Bossa Nova, While The Bittersweet Ballad "Lovers Of Their Time" Suggests The Influence Of Billy Strayhorn, Who Is Represented With A Mellow, Loping Arrangement Of "Chelsea Bridge." A Romp Through "My Shining Hour" Closes The Date With A Flourish. First Copy We Have Seen In Over Ten Years.

Urban Dreams
Used - LP - PA 8009
1981 Original Recorded By Rudy Van Gelder. Features The One-And-Only Jimmy Rowles On Piano, George Mraz, Bass And Billy Hart, Drums. Glossy, Unplayed Condition. "It is a real pity that this session from baritonist Pepper Adams was for a now-defunct label for it is one of his best recordings. Adams, accompanied quite tastefully by pianist Jimmy Rowles, bassist George Mraz and drummer Billy Hart, sticks primarily to straightahead material and he often roars through such songs as "Dexter Rides Again," "Three Little Words" and "Pent Up House"; the ballad "Time On My Hands" and his title cut are fine change of paces." Scott Yanow, AMG.
