Albany, Joe

Vinyl Records and Rare LPs:

At Home Used - Vinyl - JA1 1972 UK Laminated Cover Original. Vinyl Appears Glossy. Cover Has Some Bubbling Along The Spine And A Bumped Corner. “This Release Was Quite Important For A Couple Of Reasons. It Was The First LP Put Out By The British Spotlite Label And Only The Second Date Led By The Legendary (And Until Then Largely Forgotten) Bop Pianist Joe Albany; The Earlier Session Was Actually A 1957 Rehearsal! Recorded At Home On His Own Piano, This Solo Set Has Albany Performing 11 Standards And Bop Tunes, Plus His Own "Birdtown Blues." The Recording Quality Is Decent If Not State-Of-The-Art, But The Playing Is Quite Excellent And Fortunately Led To The Rediscovery Of This Important "Missing Link."” – Scott Yanow, AMG more

Low Down (Original Soundtrack) Used - Vinyl - CINE 805 2015 Black Vinyl Gatefold Original. This Soundtrack Is Not Only An Aural Companion To Low Down–the Acclaimed Biopic Of Jazz Pianist Joe Albany, Based On The Memoirs Of His Daughter Amy-jo Albany–but Also The Perfect Primer For Albany’s Lifework. Comprised Of Albany’s Own Compositions Alongside Those Of Coleman Hawkins, Max Roach, Thelonious Monk, And Selections From Ohad Talmor’s Score, This Album Conjures Both A Feel For Albany’s Own Avant-garde, Quick-tempo, Bebop Jazz And A Mood That Evokes The Life Of Hollywood’s Notorious Jazz Hustler. The Album Meets With The Deep Approval Of Flea, Who Took The Role Of Executive Producer And Co-star Of The Film. “this Is The Music That Makes Me Think That Human Beings Aren’t So Bad,” Writes The Bassist In The Liner Notes. “this Is The Sound That Gives Me The Energy To Go Out Into The World And Try To Shine A Light." more
