If I Never Knew Your Name
New - LP - LST 8063
Sealed 1969 Gatefold Original With Custom "Red Red Wine" Sticker On Shrink. Cut Corner. “Vic Dana Spent Most Of The '60s On Dolton Records Creating Music That Fell Somewhere Between Teen Idol-Pop And Adult Contemporary, Scoring A Number Of Moderate Hits Along The Way. After A Few Chartless Years He Moved To Liberty Records And, With The Help Of Neil Diamond, Returned To The Hit Parade. His Two Comeback Singles Were Recordings Of Diamond's Songs "If I Never Knew Your Name" And "Red Red Wine" (Not Listed On The Jacket But On The Album) That Unveiled Dana's New, Hipper Persona. His Full-Length Album, Never Knew Your Name, Reinforced The Image Overhaul With A Series Of Photos Depicting Dana As A Rugged Outdoorsman And Motorcyclist; Inside The Gatefold Cover Was A Poster-Size Picture Of Biker Dana And One Of Those Trendy Little Ellipsis-Filled Poems That Used To Pass For Album Notes In The Late '60s. The Music Inside Is Very Different From Dana's Earlier Traditional Pop, And Seems To Have Been Patterned After Neil Diamond. Dana's Original Song "Another Dream Shot Down" Could Pass For A Diamond Track, But Dana Doesn't Openly Ape Diamond — He Uses Various Vocal Styles On The Album. Curiously, "Red Red Wine" Leads Side Two, But Isn't Listed On The Album Cover. A Few Other Notable Songwriters Contributed To The Album — Buzz Clifford, Mac Davis, And Glenn Frey — And Dana Seemed To Have Found A Successful New Direction To Pursue. Unfortunately, His Minor Comeback Was Short-Lived, But Never Knew Your Name Remains A Surprisingly Agreeable Souvenir From His Brief Commercial Rebirth.” – Greg Adams, All Music Guide more
