Ani DiFranco
New - LP - RBR 001-V
Sealed 2021 2LP Gatefold Reissue. Includes Lyric Sheet. "I Am A Work In Progress," Appropriately Announces Ani Difranco On Her Debut Album. Though Her Lyrics Have The Rambling Style Of Free-Form Poetry And She Sounds Like She Learned Her Spare, Percussive Style Of Guitar Playing By Listening To Suzanne Vega Albums, She Defines A Distinct Persona, That Of A Self-possessed, Assertive Woman In A Tough, Urban Landscape Who Feels The Need To Lash Out First (Usually In Reference To Heterosexual Romantic Relationships) And Then Turn Vulnerable. She Justifies Her Chip-on-the-shoulder Attitude With Some Telling Observations And Turns Of Phrase, Even If Individual Lines Are Sometimes Better Than Whole Songs, And Puts The Songs Across With Her Elastic Phrasing And Sheer Conviction Even When They're Not Really About Much Of Anything. When She Has A Real Subject, However, Notably On The Album's Best Composition, "Lost Woman Song," Which Concerns Abortion, It All Comes Together And She Displays A Writing And Performing Talent That Is As Thrilling As It Is Affecting." Living In Clip
Colored Vinyl - New - RBR0011-V
Sealed 2022 180gm 3LP 25th Anniversary Triple Gatefold Reissue, Pressed On Red Smoke Coloured Vinyl. First Time On Vinyl. "Living In Clip Is Ani Difranco's First Live Album, And She Seems To Be Making Up For Lost Time: She's Crammed Several Years Worth Of Live Performances Into This Set. Most Of These Songs Are Performed By Only Three People: Andy Stochansky On Drums, Sara Lee On Bass, And Difranco On Acoustic Guitar (Although Her Trio Is Joined A Couple Of Times By Doc Severinsen's Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra). Clearly, She Doesn't Need A Big Band To Put On An Electrifying Show; Her Concert Performances Have Long Been As Much A Part Of Her Low-Profile Legend As Her Self-Financed Studio Albums. Difranco Has Said That She Considers Herself To Be Primarily A Live Artist Because Her Music Relies On The Intangibly Active Relationship Between Herself And Her Audience. When This Live Set Came Out In 1997, A Number Of Critics Remarked That It Captured The Energy Of That Relationship Better Than The Albums She Recorded In The Isolation Of The Studio. That It Does. Difranco's Public Exhibition Of Emotion, And Her Self-Deprecating Banter In Between Songs, Add To The Feeling Of Openness That Is Essential To Her Music (Essential Both Because She Is An Activist For The Politics Of Honesty And Because Her Personal Vulnerability Is Necessary To Keep Those Politics From Seeming Pedantic). What These Recordings Cannot Do Is Transcend Their Own Medium -- While They May Catch A Fraction Of The Dynamism Of Her Live Shows, They Are Still, After All, Recordings. Ultimately, Many Of Her Studio Performances Make For Better CD's Simply Because They Were Designed With CD Players In Mind. On Her Studio Albums, The Music Is Often More Focused, The Sound Quality Is Better, And Difranco Conveys Her Emotions Without Any Reliance On Visual Communication. Still, Living In Clip Is A Good Document Of Difranco's Relationship With Her Audience, And Many Of Her Angrier, Sassier Songs Actually Work Better When There's A Crowd Around To Participate In The Vitriol. In Any Case, This Collection Of Songs Serves As An Excellent Best-Of Compilation For An Artist Who Is Sometimes A Bit Too Prolific For Her Own Good." AMG Review By Darryl Cater. more

Which Side Are You On?
Used - LP - RBR073
2012 180gm 2LP Gatefold Original. Two Creased Corners. Both Records Appear Glossy, Unplayed. “Which Side Are You On?, Alt-Folk Legend Ani Difranco's 17th Studio Album, And First In Over Three Years, Takes Its Title From The Classic 1930s Protest Tune Of The Same Name, A Song Made Popular By Another Folk Legend, Pete Seeger. It's A Fitting Sentiment, As Difranco's Been Championing The Spiritually, Financially, And Socially Disenfranchised Since Her Electrifying (Acoustically Speaking) 1990 Debut, And Standout Tracks Like "Life Boat," "Splinter," And The Rousing Title Cut, The Latter Of Which Features Seeger Himself On Banjo And Backing Vocals, Do Little To Tarnish Her Well-Earned Reputation As A D.I.Y. Force Of Nature.” – J.C. Monger, AMG more
