Sealed 1980 pressing. The "King of Hearts: A New Musical (Original Broadway Cast)" album features performances by Don Scardino and Millicent Martin from the short-lived 1978 Broadway production. Based on the 1966 anti-war film "King of Hearts," the musical premiered at the Minskoff Theatre but closed after just 48 performances. With music by Peter Link and lyrics by Jacob Brackman, the show tells the story of a Scottish soldier who, during World War I, enters a small French town emptied of its residents except for escaped mental asylum inmates. The score, preserved in this cast album, reflects the whimsical and satirical tone of the source material, blending period musical styles with a contemporary, late-1970s sensibility. more
